To be completely honest, I’ve never really been drawn to this event. In 13 years living in Strasbourg, I’ve only visited the fair once. It was in 2013 or 2014, when a friend invited me to spend an afternoon with her. The entrance fee was charged, it was hot, and I quickly felt tired. Needless to say, I don’t have fond memories of that visit.
Despite this, in September 2024, I decided to give it a second chance. And honestly, I enjoyed it a lot more this time. So why the change of heart? Perhaps I've matured… No, definitely not! I think it’s more because I had the chance to visit the fair in the evening when there were fewer people. The entrance was free, so I didn’t feel like I was spending money for nothing. And let’s be honest, as a 36-year-old apartment owner and adult, I finally understood the appeal of seeing the exhibitors and artisans. So maybe I have matured a little after all.

A bit of history
Our European Fair of Strasbourg was established in 1932, as Europe was trying to recover from post-war economic difficulties. Initially, the fair was a place for local artisans and merchants to meet, but it quickly took on an international dimension. Over the years, the fair has evolved into a true European commercial hub. Today, it's a place of discovery, cultural exchange, and promotion of innovations.
At first, the event focused mainly on local products, but it has since grown to become a showcase for craftsmanship, industry, and innovation. Each year, an honorary guest country is highlighted, offering visitors a glimpse of the culture, cuisine, and traditions of that nation. This international touch enhances the experience for everyone.
