The one who gets the larger piece is said to become the head of the household. Then, they each dip a piece into salt, a symbol of protection against misfortune.
Dancing is also a central element of Bulgarian weddings. The horo, a circle dance where everyone holds hands, is essential. It symbolizes unity and shared joy. The newlyweds must also dance together to show their connection to the guests.
Another fun tradition: the kidnapping of the bride. A group of friends kidnaps the bride and the groom must negotiate her “release” by offering alcohol, money, or by completing a challenge.

Another legend tells the story of the Wonder Bridges, an impressive natural site in the Rhodopes. According to tradition, a young shepherd and a mountain fairy loved each other in secret. But the jealous gods transformed the path where they met into stone bridges, separating them forever.
