Une belle. If you're arriving by plane, the nearest airport is Faro. From there, Olh\u00e3o is just 20 minutes away by car or train.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1038\" data-end=\"1196\">The train is convenient. It leaves directly from Faro and drops you right in the center of Olh\u00e3o. The trip is short, pleasant, and tickets are very affordable.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1198\" data-end=\"1370\">If you\u2019re traveling by car, Olh\u00e3o is connected via the EN125 road. Easy to get there from the east or west of the Algarve. And there are plenty of parking lots around the center.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-522f9c8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"522f9c8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A bit of history: a town born from the sea<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b464ebd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b464ebd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"1578\">Olh\u00e3o hasn\u2019t always been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2025\/01\/03\/nizhny-novgorod\/\">city<\/a>city. At first, it was just a fishing village. But not just any: sailors, adventurers.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1791\">The town began to grow in the 17th century. The inhabitants lived from fishing, mainly sardines and tuna. They built boats, developed a small port, and sent their fish all the way to Lisbon.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"2054\">In 1808, Olh\u00e3o made history. A small boat, the <em data-start=\"1872\" data-end=\"1892\">Ca\u00edque Bom Sucesso,<\/em>left from here to reach the King of Portugal, who was in exile in Brazil. Mission: to inform him that the French had been expelled. This heroic voyage is still celebrated today.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2056\" data-end=\"2252\">That period also shaped the town\u2019s unique architecture. Here, you take your time. You walk, observe, breathe. The town reveals itself through its narrow streets, its lively market, its quiet port. You wander through the historic center, pause in front of white fa\u00e7ades and azulejos, and sit on a terrace for a coffee or a glass of wine.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"596\" data-end=\"924\">It\u2019s a town for the curious, for those who love local vibes and simple pleasures. You can shop at the market, take a ferry to the nearby islands, taste the regional cuisine, or just watch the sun set over the marina. Every moment becomes special when you slow down a bit.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1169\">In the following sections, I\u2019ll take you through my favorite places in Olh\u00e3o: Narrow alleys, whitewashed walls, faded azulejos, and sometimes an open door revealing a flower-filled patio.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2484\" data-end=\"2634\">Here, there\u2019s no need for a plan. Just walk. Look up. Stop for a coffee. The pace is slow, and that\u2019s what makes it special.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2784\">Don\u2019t miss Rua Dr. Manuel Arriaga. It\u2019s one of the liveliest. You\u2019ll find caf\u00e9s, small shops, and a local atmosphere.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2786\" data-end=\"2902\">In April, there were few tourists.
