Not necessarily for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/07\/12\/blues-de-fin-de-voyage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vacation stay<\/a> (I\u2019ll tell you more about that later). But mainly for visiting, exploring, and admiring.<\/p><p>Here\u2019s why you should absolutely visit it and everything you shouldn't miss in this charming historic spot.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c8cae40 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c8cae40\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Where is Nessebar and how to get there<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8ceaac9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8ceaac9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>If you\u2019ve already arrived at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2025\/01\/31\/vacances-mer-noire-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Sea coast.<\/a>, congratulations. The hardest part is done. If not, fly to one of the nearest airports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/03\/06\/visiter-sofia-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sofia<\/a>, Varna or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/08\/02\/votre-guide-exclusif-pour-un-voyage-reussi-a-bourgas-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burgas<\/a>Or even Bucharest, passing through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/06\/25\/rousse-bulgarie-un-voyage-enchante-au-coeur-du-danube\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruse<\/a>).<\/p><p>Nessebar is located about 35km from Burgas. You can rely on public transport to get there. Buses run every 30 minutes from the central station to the old or new town of Nessebar. <strong>The price of a ticket in 2024 is 8 BGN (4 Euros).<\/strong>The journey takes about 45 minutes. You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/05\/03\/transports-et-deplacements-en-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take a taxi,<\/a>but be prepared for slightly higher prices.<\/p><p>Once there, the best way to get around the old town is <strong>on foot,<\/strong>especially since cars are banned in the old town. The Greeks transformed this small settlement into an important seaport, building temples, theaters, and fortifications. In ancient times, the city thrived due to its prosperous trade and strategic location on the Black Sea. The Thracians named the city Melsambria in honor of their legendary leader, Melsa. Over time, its name evolved, becoming Messemvria in the Middle Ages, then Messebar, and finally Nessebar.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element Over time, about a third of the ancient city has been swallowed by the sea. If you enjoy diving, you can still see pieces of its walls underwater, about 80 meters from the coast. This unique blend of past and present makes Nessebar so captivating and continues to fascinate visitors year after year. It's ideal for families, with its shallow waters and many amenities.<\/li><li><strong>North Beach:<\/strong> Less crowded than South Beach, it\u2019s a perfect spot for those seeking a bit more tranquility.<\/li><li><strong>Sunny Beach:<\/strong> Located near Nessebar, this beach is one of the most famous in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/03\/29\/voyage-bulgarie-circuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bulgaria<\/a>If you enjoy water sports or are looking for a more festive atmosphere, this is the place to go. Just know that Sunny Beach is quite \u201cbuilt-up,\u201d with hotels, bars, and restaurants everywhere. Nessebar is no exception! You\u2019ll find numerous restaurants with spectacular views of the sea. I recommend taking a stroll through the town before choosing your favorite spot, as you\u2019ll likely be tempted to try the restaurants in the center. But don\u2019t rush. The gems are located at the far end of the old town, by the sea. My favorite restaurant is <strong>Zornitza<\/strong>but there are many others worth visiting.<\/p><p>Being a coastal town, Nessebar naturally offers seafood and fish dishes. You\u2019ll find many restaurants serving grilled fish, mussels, calamari, and freshly caught shrimp. Pair it with a glass of Bulgarian wine for the perfect meal.<\/p><p>Don\u2019t miss trying some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/03\/01\/cuisine-bulgare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local specialties<\/a> like <strong>\"snezhanka\" salad,<\/strong>a cucumber and yogurt salad, or <strong>shopska salata<\/strong>made with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, white cheese, and olive oil.
