My family worked in tourism, and I had the pleasure of exploring the nooks and crannies of Bulgaria\u2019s 4<sup>th<\/sup> largest city. Less known than its neighbour Varna, Burgas is definitely worth visiting for its many attractions and laid-back ambiance. Burgas is situated on the southern side <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/03\/22\/mer-noire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of the Black Sea<\/a>, in the <strong>\"Burgas Bay.\"<\/strong>This strategic position has greatly contributed to the city\u2019s development. You can reach it by plane since the city has its own airport, or you can arrive in Sofia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/05\/03\/transports-et-deplacements-en-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and travel across the country by car<\/a>, bus, or train to get to Burgas. The distance from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/03\/06\/visiter-sofia-bulgarie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>Sofia<\/strong><\/a> is around 450 km. I can only recommend taking a bus, as my recent experiences with trains were not very positive. Archaeological excavations have revealed remains of Thracian, Greek, and Roman settlements, highlighting the region's importance over millennia. However, the city as we know it today took shape in the late 19th century with the rise of trade and maritime exchanges.<\/p><p>Burgas was under the <strong>rule of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiscoverytravel.com\/en\/2024\/05\/23\/sultanahmet-votre-guide-complet-pour-explorer-le-coeur-distanbul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Ottomans<\/a><\/strong> for several centuries, leaving a lasting imprint on its architecture and culture.
